WHATT IN BANGKOK

Khaosan Road in Bangkok, backpacker's haven

I'm now back in BKK. I left Kampaeng Phet yesterday morning to catch a 8am bus to  BKK. Took nearly 6 hours to reach BKK. Would have been earlier if the bus had not made 2 stops each lasting about 1/2 hr. Quite a quiet place in Kampaeng Phet. Centred around 2 main streets. Spent the whole afternoon walking around the historical park, quite a distance from the town centre.Had the chance to witness a local Thai opera skit. Food is quite cheap and appetising. "Char Siew Fan" costs 15bts a plate. For dinner I had  mixed seafood kuey teow with some middle sized prawns, sotong and some mussels, all for 25bts. Late in the night I had kueyteow soup with pork and some entrails for only 15bts.  This morning I finally paid a visit to the Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn. Although I've been here umpteen times I never get to visit it.
Certain times I hopped onto the wrong boat and missed it completely. This time I got it right. A lot of package tourists this morning mostly Japanese and a few who spoke Cantonese and Mandarin. After that I took the boat back to the opposite side and walked around Chinatown from 10am until nearly 3pm in the afternoon. It's really a fantastic place to walk aimlessly especially along the lanes. You bump into all kinds of people, Westerners, Arabs, Russian and Japanese. It is very popular because this is the wholesale market centre and most who are there are buying articles to be brought home for resale. Just anything that you want, you can get it there. Will be taking a bus to Prachuap Kiri Khan tomorrow morning. This is a seaside town along the Isthmus of Kra.
