WHATT IN AYUTHAYA
07 February 2002

Entrance to Wat Mahathat in Ayuthaya.

Arrived on 7 Feb. 2002 afternoon from BKK. Train reached BKK at about 11.15 and immediately boarded the next train bound for Ayuthaya. Took about 1 hr 15 minutes to reach Ayuthaya. After checking in into a guesthouse and having a short rest and bath, I went out to two of the better known temple ruins, Wat Mahathat and Wat Rachabusara.

Entrance fee for foreigners is 30 bts. but when the keeper asked whether I was a Thai, of course I said yes and paid 10Bts. So I saved about Rm4. Enough to buy two meals. Just had a plate of fried prawns over white rice for 20Bts. Its really very tiring lugging your Lopburi. haversack almost the whole day. I think I have to retired to bed very early tonight. Will be taking a train to Lopburi tomorrow morning and if I can connect straight to Chainat, I’ll proceed or else spend a night at Lopburi.
