THAILAND REVISIT
7th Oct 2005
KANCHANABURI AND NAKORN PATHOM

The weather was rather kind in the morning as we walked along the road leading to the bridge ove the River Kwai. A porridge stall caught our eyes and we planted ourselves onto the plastic stool and made orders for each of us. It was more of a thick rice paste sprinkled with few strands of chicken meat. With no songthaew in sight, we decided to take a motorbike taxi to the bridge and reached in time to see a train rolling over the bridge. When the train passed we walked the whole span of the bridge whistling the theme tune of Alec Guinness's film, "The Bridge Over The River Kwai"

After shopping for some souvenirs we went back to the hotel to check out and proceeded to the bus station to get a bus to Nakorn Pathom. What joy it was when we boarded an air-con for the first time since our trip. Our joy soon dissipated after the air-con broke down somewhere three quarters of the journey and the bus turned into a 60mph hurtling oven. As we sweated profusely, the driver kept apologizing profusely. Everybody rushed to get out of the bus when we reached our destination only to encounter more woes. All the hotels were fully booked. After a pow wow we decided to catch a train to Rachaburi. As it was another 2 hours before the train departed two of us watched over our luggage while the rest went to visit the Pra Pathom Chedi

The world's largest chedi,            With the tallest standing measuring 120m high                statue of Buddha

The reclining Buddha on the west part of the chedi.

At Nakorn Pathom train station waitig for he train to Rachaburi. We arrived in Rachaburi to a slight drizzle. After Checking into a hotel, we went out to search for food.

Rudy, who spoke fluent Classical Thai ordering some Thai dishes for us at a roadside stall. Lye Thiam was waiting for durians to drop.
