China - Hong Kong
December 1992

As Quilin was only slightly more than an hour bus ride from Yangshuo, I took a bus there. Not persuasive enough to get a cheap guesthouse, I decided not to stay there and rented a bicycle to cycle around. Visited the Seven Star Park and the famous Flute Reed Cave. Although I snapped some photos, they didn't turn out as the lighting was too poor. Returned to Yangshuo in the evening. After staying another 2 days there I back tracked back to HK via Wuzhou and Quangzhou. Fancy a 'Teochew moey' buffet? At Wuzhou roadside stall you can. For 0.45Rmb, you get a bowl of moey and "all you can eat" dishes spread out on the table.

A ferry boat to take passengers to the nearby villages in Bai Sa.
With the amount of walking in Guangzhou, my Nike shoes succumbed to the wear and tear and I had to ask this cobbler to mend it for 10Rmb.
The flagons contained snakes soaked in wine. Never asked what they were meant for but I surmised that when you drank a glass, the snake under your pants would start to stir. That brings up the topic of hotdogs. Who actually introduced the cuisine to the world? Was it the Americans or the British. Well. it was neither. It was actually the Chinese.
The famous Jumbo Restaurant in Hong Kong. Could only afford to get a whiff of the cooking aroma as I passed.
Besides the Jumbo Restaurant, I visited the Ocean Park, Victoria Peak. Man Mo temple, Space museum and also the largest mosque in HK. Took a hydrofoil to Macau. Can never forget the dried cuttlefish noodle. Simply Mo tak teng. James should go there. Walk along any street and there's bound to be a casino hedged between the shophouses.
The hotel where I stayed for only 60 patacas (Rm20)          At the St Paul's Cathedral.
The famous Casino Lisboa. HK dollars were used in these casinos. All in, I lost a total of HK$150. Flew back to BKK on the 21st Nov.
