Bali II
July 1996

On the 8th July, after leaving JB airport at 12.30pm. MH841 ground to a halt on the tarmac at Nyurah Ria airport, Denpasar.
After checking in at a GH in Kuta, I was grounded for the next two days. Going up a flight of staircase too hastily, I missed a step and sprained my left ankle. With agonisingly slow and measured steps, I managed to drag myself within the GH area, mostly to the beach. Fortunately after applying some liniment, I recovered enough to take a bemo to Ubud where I stayed for a few days enjoying the long solo walk within the vicinity. At night I went for the Bangor and Legong dance performances
A bevy of Balinese beauties dressed in ancient costumes dancing with lots of hip movements and hand gestures. The Bangor dance is performed by men wearing different masks to depict different characters.
Met this sculptor in Penestanan, a village near Ubud.My walk also took me to the Elephant Caves which houses some ancient temples, to terraced paddy fields and a cottage industries which makes bamboo wind chimes. Later I took a conducted tour to some outlying areas that included the Taman Ayun temple, Mengwi, National Shrine Margarana. Monkey Forest and the well known Tanah Lot temple
After Ubud I took a bemo to Gianyar and from there to Klung Klung. Stayed at Hotel Vishnu for 7000rp/night (Rm7)
An ancient palace with plenty of Hindu dieties. After Klung Klung I went to Padang Bai to board a ferryboat to Lombok, a journey that took about 5 hours.
